Joshua grew up in the small town of Logan, Ohio. His mother read books to him from the time he was born, leading to his love of reading at an early age. That love flourished in elementary school, where he began to try his hand at writing his own stories. As you might expect, they were bad.
Throughout adolescence, some of that passion for writing was suppressed by the pitfalls of schooling, though the interest always remained. That love for storytelling led to him beginning as a journalism major at Ohio University. Two years later, he changed his major to psychology, where he could listen to others’ stories while continuing to participate in student-run journalism outlets. The summer before he made the change, he read two books that helped reignite his interest in reading. Those books were Eragon by Christopher Paolini, which he was reading for the fourth time, and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. For the rest of his undergraduate career, he read as much as he could fit into his schedule. In 2017, Joshua graduated with a BA in Psychology and a new appreciation for the written word.
At the time, he was not equipped with the funds to pay for graduate school to continue his psychology studies. After working a few different jobs both in and out of the psychology field while searching for a direction in life, Joshua had the opportunity to move to Taiwan, where he taught English at an elementary school for about six months. Two things happened to him while he was there. The first is that he started writing again. After years of journalistic and scientific writing, the opportunity to use his creativity was freeing. Second, he fell in love with teaching. When he returned to the United States, he knew what he wanted to do. He moved to Tennessee, where he enrolled online at the University of Phoenix to begin working toward an MA in Secondary Education. He completed his program and earned his license to teach English in December, 2022.
Joshua currently resides in Pennsylvania, where he teaches 7th grade English. He has completed two novels and numerous short stories. He is currently seeking representation, planning his third novel, and working to improve his writing.
